Emerge

This week the Sun enters Aries and ushers in the season of Spring for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. Here in Port St. Joe, Florida I am seeing all sorts of things emerging:  azaleas in fuchsia and coral, little yellow flowers on creeping vines, delicate pink buds, sturdy pink-crowned thistles, purple little soldiers and trees just full of their new selves getting ready to burst everywhere.

What within you is ready to emerge? I’m feeling the urge to splash a bunch of paint down on a large surface and goosh it through my fingers and see what happens. I wonder if that’s how Mama Gaia feels when she calls in the rains to make mud in the gardens of our world? What will come up from the mud for you? What puddles will you splash through to get to where you need to be, metaphorically or physically or both?

I hope some of you will go out and make big splashes somewhere this week! Or little ones if that’s more your style. :). But, do splash, my friends. What part of your world do you want to make a splash in? What needs your wisdom and your fire and your passion and your creativity? Are you hearing something calling to you? Now might be the perfect time to heed the call, perhaps in a way you never imagined before.

The word “emerge” basically means to become known or to come to light, and brings with it, for me, a sense of excitement and curiosity and energy.  AND it also implies the darkness or nothingness that exists beforehand.  Which brings to mind that the root of the word 'emergency' is also emerge. So, an emergency happens when something emerges that we don’t feel ready for, that frightens us. This, to me, also implies the faith that is necessary to come out of the darkness.

Enter Aries'  ruling or guardian planet, Mars.  Mars is that part of our inner selves that stands tall, stands sentry, and defends us for all we are worth.  Especially when we feel threatened.  Mars is our warrior energy, our will, our steely fire, our not-to-be-messed-with self ready to do battle to survive.  Mars is our faith in life, itself -- in all that we stand for.   All the capacity to deal with life exists within us.

What have you been hiding that the rest of the world needs you to share? What have you been hiding from yourself that you need to share? Which brings me to the image Ace of Fire from the Gaian Tarot (link above) on the Introduction page.

Look at this little guy! He is a snake that has broken through his shell to emerge into the light of new life. Put yourself into his little body for a moment and look around you. What do you see? What do you feel? What fire is lighting you up from behind? What do you wonder about? What do you need?

This is Aries season. It’s all about you. What shell will you break out of this month?
