Cooperating with the Universe in Virgo Season

by Lezli Censullo

It’s Virgo season!  Whether you follow the Sun as he illuminates various sectors of the zodiac or not, I invite you to invoke your curiosity and see what happens when you consider the gifts (and challenges) of the season.  The Sun’s circle through the signs each year is an invitation to co-create with the Cosmos.

MUTABLE EARTH ENERGY: Virgo is mutable earth energy.  And earth energy is about what matters! (See what I did there?). During Virgo season, we are being called to align our intentions with Soul – to manifest and harvest that which truly lights us up, and to let the rest go.  What lights you up? What are you ready to release back to Mama Gaia so that it can be restored, re-purposed? Remember, nothing is ever lost. Everything has value.  It’s up to us to determine what we need.  How empowering is that?!  And being mutable, Virgo has the ability to learn and make the adjustments that help us align more easily with our Souls’ intentions.

THE SIGN OF THE VIRGIN: Virgo is often called the sign of the Virgin and is associated with purity, discernment, and discrimination.  Think of it this way:  in the original definition, a Virgin was a self-contained woman whole unto herself.  This implies that this is a great time to notice and celebrate who we are and to know ourselves complete.  Who are you?  What conditioning are you ready to shed?  What boundaries keep you pure?  Being true to yourself implies saying yes AND saying no.  What serves you?  What no longer serves?

DEVOTION AND SERVICE:  Which brings us to the whole idea of Service.  Virgo is service oriented.  Virgo is dedicated to being the best they can be and to extending that to others.  That implies discerning our own needs and creating daily habits and routines and rituals that serve the integrity of our true selves.  What better way to show our devotion?  What are you devoted to?  That is how we serve.

HARVEST TIME:  Virgo season is the first of the great Harvests.  It’s time to separate the wheat from the chaff.  In order to do that, we need to analyze; we need to discriminate, to organize and discern.  And we get to nourish ourselves and others.  What nourishes you?  (Virgo is also associated with the digestive process.  When we digest we keep what we need and let go the rest.) What is ripe?  What needs a little more time? What gets to be worked back into the soil for the next generation?

THE SHADOW:  And, as with any energy, we can go overboard sometimes.  The shadow side of Virgo can show itself in the routines we stick to whether they serve us or not; in being demanding instead of inviting; in being overly critical of self and others; in strident perfectionism.  Is your shadow showing?  How lucky you are! What invitation to learn and purify is being offered to you?

VIRGO AND THE HERMIT:  The tarot card that corresponds to Virgo is the Hermit.   The Hermit needs the solitude of introspection; and then needs must come back down the mountain to be, once again, amongst the people.  In what way do you benefit the others in your world because you have taken time to know yourself?

COOPERATING WITH THE UNIVERSE DURING VIRGO SEASON:  So, how can we align with Virgo energies during this season?  Here are some ideas:

·      Tidy and organize

·      Let go of routines that no longer serve our sovereign selves

·      Do the work that is calling you

·      Think about health in a bigger, broader way

·      Find the practical in the spiritual and the spiritual in the practical

·      Appreciate ourselves for what we are doing that feels right and good and aligned

·      Spend some time alone and then go find your tribe

·      Go outside

·      Figure out what is really important to focus on

·      Create an alter

And mostly, love yourself no matter how smooth or prickly you might feel.  Remember the rose.  We need all the parts of ourselves, even the ones we are ready to release.

How is Virgo season for you?  Please share.  I really want to know.
